About Kenshi
Kenshi is a rogue swordsman of mixed Eurasian heritage. He is an athletic man with a blindfold and a gruff appearance. He has mastered the arts of tai chi and Judo, and also uses telekinesis to fight his enemies. He has a bitter hatred for the sorcerer Shang Tsung.
Storyline
As a born fighter, Kenshi wandered Earthrealm in search of worthy competition. He would find an opponent and defeat them just to boost his foolish pride. Eventually he met a man by the name of Song who revealed to him information about an ancient sword. Song enticed Kenshi telling him that his skills were great so he needed a great sword. Kenshi took the bait as the old man led him to an ancient structure where the sword was housed. They traveled deep inside until they came across a deep well, covered by a large stone. Told that the sword lay within, Kenshi removed the lid, and suddenly he was overwhelmed by the souls of the dead. Song revealed himself to be Shang Tsung and he proceded to steal the released souls. Kenshi was physically blinded by the ordeal and left to die within the tomb. In a surprise twist, the sword acually did exist and Kenshi was drawn to it. It spoke to him, leading him out of the tomb while revealing the truth about its origin and the connection between Kenshi and the souls Tsung stole. It turns out that the sword belonged to a long line of great swordsmen of whom Kenshi shares lineage. The well where the sword lay was also the sacred resting place of the souls of Kenshi's ancestors, souls that where stolen by Shang Tsung. Kenshi spent the next decade or so, retraining his senses, all while searching for his betrayer and the defiler of his ancestry. This path led him to the U.S. Special Forces.
It is unknown how Kenshi actually became a member of the U.S. Special Forces, however whatever the reason, his special abilities had caught the attention of Jax and Sonya whom were looking for members of special talents to join their side. Another reason that may explain his joining of the organization may come from the discovery that Sonya's organization made frequent trips to Outworld. Any place that could lead him to Shang Tsung was good enough for him. After going through many tests and examinations, he was accepted to join Sonya's ranks
His chance at enacting his revenge came when Cyrax, another agent of the Special Forces, was lost in Outworld. Kenshi was given the task of going after him. In his travels across Outworld, he would encounter the enigma known as Ermac, and, in a moment of pity, broke the mind control that Shao Kahn had over him. In gratitude, Ermac awakened Kenshi's telekinetic power, and taught him not only how to use it effectively in combat, but to also use it as a viable replacement for his eyesight, allowing him to 'sense' the presence of people and objects around him. Kenshi soon discovered the Deadly Alliance and their plans, but when he tried to contact home base, the transmission was dead (due to the destruction of the Outerworld's portal, which was nuked by Hsu Hao). Unbeknownst to Kenshi, the Deadly Alliance knew of his presence and sent Mavado to take care of him. Mavado confronted Kenshi and stabbed him with Kabal's hookswords. Bleeding heavily, and with death in Kenshi's future, Mavado left him for dead in the battlefield.
Sub-Zero found the dying Kenshi and helped him, watching over him until his strength returned. Because of Sub-Zero's sympathy and kindness, Kenshi would forge a temporary alliance with Sub-Zero to find a portal that would take them back home, though this temporary alliance soon became a long lasting friendship. With the events of Deadly Alliance drawing to a close, Kenshi sensed the souls of his ancestors return to his sword thus his mission for revenge would be finished, though he did not kill Shang Tsung himself. With the apparent death of Shang Tsung, Kenshi had no reason to remain in Outworld.
atalities
Contortionist: Kenshi levitates his opponent in the air and his or her body begins to contort in non-human ways. Bones break and legs and arms bend the wrong way, and eventually the victims eyes pop out (if you do this move to Kano, you will notice that only one eye will pop out.) (MKDA)
Samurai Slash: Kenshi takes out his sword and stabs it into the opponent's chest. He pulls it out a couple seconds later and slices them across the torso. As Kenshi turns to face the camera the opponent falls in half. (MKD)
Telekinetic Tear: Kenshi lifts the opponent off the ground with telekinesis and turns them horizontally. Then, Kenshi begins moving his arms apart causing the victim to stretch, and eventually tearing him or her in half. (MKD)
Trivia
Kenshi has been noted to look a lot like Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid. Coincidentally, when Neo is blinded in The Matrix Revolutions, and subsequently wears a blindfold, both his posture, looks and telekinetic powers are very similar to those of Kenshi.
Another fact worth of mention is that his name, when translated in Japanese, means "sword saint/spirit." In Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, he is referred to as the Sword Saint, perhaps a reference to Miyamoto Musashi, a man who was (and still is) argued by many to be greatest swordsman that ever lived, a title Kenshi would love to take for himself.
Is the second character in the Mortal Kombat series to use Telekinesis as his special ability. He is however the first character to adopt a swordsman persona (that is only popular in samurai type games, such as Onimusha).
Ermac was supposed to return to Mortal Kombat: Deception as Kenshi's mentor, but this concept was quickly abandoned as it didn't make sense to do so.
Was first introduced as being "Unknown", but later his status was "Good" as it was quite obvious that he didn't like Shang Tsung. In retrospect, this plays on Liu Kang's quote in the official Mortal Kombat II comic book: "An enemy of Shang Tsung's is a friend of ours."
Though Kenshi is officially 6' 1" in [[Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance]], a glitch in the game sometimes doubles the "1" making his listed height 6' 11". In MK:D, he looks just a shade under 6' 2".
